This is a workshop inspired by Jon Kabat-Zinn's 'Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction' work originally conducted at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center to help cancer patients and their families manage the stress involved in battling a life threatening illness. Teri's workshop can also be used as a way to bring more mindfulness into daily life.
Participants are taught the basics of Vipassana meditation (also called Insight meditation) and are encouraged to explore how they can develop the skill and apply the discipline of meditation to their own lives in a practical way. The benefits of meditation for mind/body health are well documented. Through regular practice you can help yourself on a core, neurological level to be less reactive and more stable. Personally empowering, learning to work with, not struggling against the resistance of your own mind builds inner strength and a natural ability to concentrate your mind.
Vipassana is introduced and used as the vehicle for self awareness. Participants are encouraged to work at their own pace toward personal goals while developing the capacity to be more 'present'.
