This course is inspired by Jon Kabat-Zinn's 'Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction' program first conducted at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center over 30 years ago. It was originally created to help cancer patients and their families manage the enormous stress involved in battling life threatening illness. However this course has developed into much broader application as the benefits of the MBSR are supported by research. Teri's course can be used simply as a way to bring more mindfulness into daily life.
Participants are taught the basics of Vipassana (also called 'Insight') Meditation and encouraged to explore how they can develop and apply this discipline to their own lives in a practical way. Through regular practice you can help yourself on a core, neurological level to be less reactive and more stable. Personally empowering, learning to work with, not struggling against the resistance of your own mind builds inner strength and a natural ability to concentrate your mind.
The benefits of meditation on mind/body health are well documented. Vipassana is introduced and used as the vehicle for self awareness. Participants are encouraged to work at their own pace toward personal goals while developing the capacity to be more 'present'.
All action arises from stillness.
